![]() But in old amps that are used you need good filter caps anyway, so that will not be an issue.Īlso the SOUND is affected marginally. Replace them with good modern ones, any old vintage fender with handle over supply voltages quite well. Its unlikely 115V on an amp 'designed' for 110V will cause differences enough to lead tube life being shortened significantly. You are being slightly alarmist there Most tube amps - and the vintage Fenders in particular can handle a wide variety of input voltages and that includes a higher input voltage. This could also be a reason that so many Modern tubes fail? Along with not as Rugged Design Plus really high voltages and or fluxuations in the voltages, it could be the tubes could Greatly benefit from Variac ? Could be the Metro copy design is close to 10 years Older but it made it much more quiet, and should also prolong my tube life. My Showman is not so noisey as the Metro without voltage regulation. But I use a 100 Watt Dual Showman Reverb and a 38 Watt Metro Amps GMP45. I can easily run 2 x 100 watt amps through this. The Parts Express can be regulated from 0-130 volts. Back in the 50's and 60's voltage was 110-115. I measured the voltage at the wall some months back and it was 125+ volts!!! A sure way to burn up expensive tubes and transformers in amps that copy vintage circuits and use expensive NOS tubes. Ive been using this 1 for about 6 months and it works really well. My Tenma got dropped and damaged so that was the end of it Its almost 100 dollars less than the Tenma 10A and so far this 1 has worked just as well.
